I wrote this book with my best friend, Tremper Longman, III because our wives are our best of best friends and lovers of our life. They have taught us what it means to live with wisdom, strength, and humility. They have given us our most earthly taste of that which most reveals the heart of God—forgiveness. It is our conviction that a good marriage is possible and necessary if one is to fulfill the calling of loving God and our neighbor. What one gains in marriage will be what one gives to the world. Therefore, we believe God’s plan is to transform us personally through our spouse, live in a transformed marriage. And in so doing to offer our children, neighbors, and world an alternative to the death and destruction of life and love we too often experience.
